Feeling Ignored by Politicians, Young Americans Look to the Midterm Elections
American youth are unhappy with the current state of the country and pessimistic about the future, according to a recent poll of people aged 15 to 34 by MTV Insights and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
This study found that most young Americans feel that President Trump does not reflect their personal values, and that elected officials in general don’t care about their concerns. But they do believe that they can make some difference in what the government does – and they are ready to take action.
The United States midterm elections, in which all seats in the House of Representatives and a third of Senate seats will be contested, will take place in November. The results will affect Trump’s ability to enact his agenda – and young voters are paying attention. Nearly half of Americans aged 18 to 22 are already reading and watching news about the midterms, and a similar percentage of young adults who will be eligible to vote then say they’re planning to.
